Dover Applies for Davey Tree Education Grant to Support Youth Arboriculture Program
The Dover Shade Tree Commission is pleased to share that it has applied for funding through the Davey Tree Expert Company Community Arboriculture Education Grant Program.
If awarded, the grant would support the development of a Youth Arboriculture & Career Pathways Program, designed to introduce Dover students to tree care, urban forestry, and related career opportunities.
While many programs focus on planting trees, fewer resources are available for education and workforce development in arboriculture. This proposed program aims to help fill that gap by providing middle and high school students with hands-on learning experiences focused on tree biology, health, and maintenance, as well as exposure to careers in environmental and green industries.
The program would be implemented in partnership with the Dover Public School District and led by an ISA Certified Arborist and tree care professionals. Planned activities include demonstrations, tree identification and assessment exercises, and interactive sessions designed to build both knowledge and interest in the field.
The Tree Fund Board of Trustees is expected to review applications and select grant recipients during its May board meeting. We are hopeful for a positive outcome and will share updates as they become available.
The Dover Shade Tree Commission will continue to pursue grant opportunities and partnerships that support education, sustainability, and long-term stewardship of our community’s trees.
