A Message from the Mayor: Drone Sightings in Our Community

Dear Town of Dover Residents,

Recent reports of drone sightings within the Morris County area have raised concerns among residents. Please rest assured that local, state and federal authorities are taking this matter very seriously.

Earlier today, I attended the New Jersey State Police and Homeland Security preparedness meeting in Ewing, New Jersey. I would like to provide some clarity regarding recent drone sightings in and around the Town of Dover. These drones have typically been observed flying between 4:30 PM and 11:30 PM. However, federal authorities have been unable to pinpoint the exact locations from which the drones are launching or landing, and their purpose remains uncertain.

Federal authorities are actively investigating the situation in collaboration with New Jersey State Police to identify the source of these drones. According to authorities, these devices do not have detection systems on them, and it is important to note that similar drone sightings have been reported both nationally and internationally.

It appears there is a lack of technology and legislation currently available to effectively manage and monitor drone activity. Existing laws and resources have proven inadequate in addressing this emerging issue.

We ask that all residents remain vigilant and report any suspicious drone activity to local law enforcement. Your observations and cooperation are vital as we work together to ensure the safety and security of our community.

We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available, and I want to reassure you that we are doing everything possible to address this issue. Attached is a pamphlet with information regarding Unmanned Aircrafts from Homeland Security, which was distributed during today's briefing. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Sincerely,
Mayor James P. Dodd
