The Tax Collection Department is responsible for the collection of all municipal property taxes and taxes that have been levied by the county and local school district.  Taxes are billed annually and collected quarterly.  Other functions include the preparation and mailing of tax bills, enforcement of tax collections by tax sale and the maintenance of tax records. Tax Collection receives and collects all current and delinquent taxes and receives penalties and interest in accordance with state statute.

Property taxes are due February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st

TAX PAYMENTS-

Taxes can be paid electronically (see above), by mail or in person.  Our office accepts checks, bank checks, money orders and cash.   Please remit the stub from your tax bill with your payment for proper credit.  Checks should be made payable to the "Town of  Dover" and mailed to the Town of Dover Tax Collector 37 N. Sussex St., Dover , NJ   07801

If you have an escrow account and your bank or mortgage company is responsible for the payment of your taxes, the original bill will be mailed to them and you will receive an "advice" copy for your records.  The coupons on the advice copy may be used to pay future taxes when you no longer have a tax escrow account.

INTEREST-

Interest will be charged at the rate of 8% on the first $1,500 of delinquency and 18% on any amount of delinquency over $1,500 until such time as taxes are paid current.  Payment is applied first to all delinquent interest and then to the oldest principal balance.

PROPERTY TAX RELIEF-

There are three separate property relief programs which are handled at the State level. These programs include the Homestead Rebate, the NJ Saver, and Property Tax Reimbursement.  Forms to apply for a Veteran or Senior Citizen deduction can be obtained from the Tax Assessor's Office. 

 

FEES-

A fee of $5.00 will be charged for duplicate bills.

A fee of $10.00 will be charged for tax searches.

A fee of $20.00 will be charged for NSF checks or ACH payments.

 

CHANGE OF MAILING ADDRESS-

Please send "change of mailing address" information in writing to the Tax Collector's office.
