  30th Anniversary of the Dover Tigers State Championship Win
Mayor James P. Dodd and the Board of Aldermen attended the 2014 Dover Tigers Homecoming Football Game at Hamilton Field on Friday, October 10th to present the 1984 Dover Tigers Varsity Football Team with a proclamation celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their State Championship win. In 1984, the Dover High School Football Team had attained a remarkable record of 8 and 3, under the leadership of Head Coach Jerry Tardive and through their hard work, dedication and perseverance, the Dover Tigers defeated Warren Hills High School with a 26 to 17 victory and clinched the State Championship. In honor of this impressive win, Mayor Aldo Cicchetti and the Town of Dover celebrated its first championship with a parade for the Dover Tigers Football State Champions through downtown Dover to Town Hall where a proclamation was presented with hundreds of enthusiastic fans turning out for the event. Mayor Dodd presented the proclamation to Head Coach Jerry Tardive while former Mayor Aldo Cicchetti, Rodney Lane (1984 player), Coach James Bodner, Coach Jan Beliveau and players of the 1984 Dover Tigers State Championship Football Team looked on. Additional Information 1984 State Championship Head Coach Jerry Tardive inducted into the NJ Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2000 Jerry Tardive began teaching Physical Education at Dover High School in 1974. For eight years, he served as an assistant football coach, and from 1978-1982 he was also the head baseball coach, during which time Dover won two conference championships. He became the head football coach for thirteen years, from 1983 to 1994. During his tenure, Dover High School won three conference championships, two Group II Section II state championships, and three second-place finishes in the state playoffs. Tardive was selected coach of the year by the Morris County Football Coaches Association both in 1984 and 1988. In 1997 Jerry was selected to the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. In the year 2000, he was inducted into the New Jersey Football Coaches Hall of Fame. Jerry’s record as head coach at Dover High School was 95-34 -2, making him the winning-est coach in Dover High School’s one hundred-year football history.

Mayor James P. Dodd & the Board of Aldermen, along with other Officials and Dignitaries led the opening festivities for the newly renovated King Field Baseball/Softball Complex on Saturday, May 31, 2014.
