DOVER CELEBRATES 300TH ANNIVERSARY
Dover, NJ - This year, the Town of Dover celebrates the 300th anniversary of its
founding. There will be a year-long celebration with events throughout 2022 related to
Dover’s history to commemorate the anniversary properly. Mayor Carolyn Blackman and
The Board of Aldermen anticipate a large community turnout at these events.
"I am incredibly excited for this milestone and to celebrate alongside the residents of
Dover all year long,” said Mayor Blackman. “Dover has a unique and rich history that
deserves recognition, especially on such a special anniversary. I am looking forward to
everything we have planned this year to commemorate 300 years in Dover, and to honor
Dover’s history for many more years to come.”
Founded in 1722 by John Jackson, Dover has its origins in the iron industry. Jackson
constructed an iron forge that became the backbone of Dover’s growth, establishing it
as a town in 1869. Dover quickly transformed into a bustling community - one that
continues to thrive and grow 300 years later. Dover’s history is continuously preserved
and honored through numerous revitalization and redevelopment projects in the
downtown historic business district.
The following is a timeline of events to celebrate the 300th anniversary throughout
