"Sticker Shock" Program in Dover Draws Attention to Risks & Consequences of Giving Alcohol to Minors
Release Date: March 13, 2013

The Sticker Shock Campaign is a youth led initiative that educates adults who might be tempted to purchase alcohol for minors on the dangers and penalties associated with such action. A team of youths from the community joined the leaders in placing bright green stickers that say “Keep it Legal” on multipacks of products in an effort to “shock” purchasers. Also, stickers will appear in the windows of businesses/restaurants that sell & serve alcohol. Recent research data has shown that it is easy for youth to obtain alcohol from adults, particularly ages 13 and older.
The Sticker Shock Campaign was launched at the Basket of Cheer at 331 Route 46 West in Dover followed by visiting the Neighborhood Deli at 263 East Blackwell Street.
Over all 1,000 stickers displaying the legal consequences of purchasing and providing alcohol to minors were placed on packaged goods in an effort to reduce underage youth access to alcohol.
