New Jersey Natural Gas Company’s contractor will be drilling a gas main under the Rockaway River between Dover and Wharton beginning this week. The work process involves staging and pulling pipe from the Dover side to the Wharton side, from a plated trench in Richboynton Road between Route 15 and the NJ Transit Railroad Crossing at the north end near Bowlby Ave. The plated trench will permit traffic to cross the trench with minimal disruption to vehicular traffic.
The operation will start this week and is expected to be completed by March 18th, weather permitting. There will be a 2 – 3 day stretch where they will be working 24 hours a day to complete the pulling of the pipe under the river, in order to get this phase of the project completed quicker. There will also be periods of time when Richboynton Road is temporarily closed, but access to the businesses on Richboynton Road will be maintained at all times through detour routes.
