Attention: All Residents and Property Owners Notice of Exterior Property Maintenance Inspections
This winter has taken a toll on all of us and especially our properties. With record amounts of snow and ice that has fallen this winter many properties have sustained heavy damage to roofs, gutters and leaders, siding, awnings, canopies, & sheds etc. In addition, there is a large amount of garbage and litter that has accumulated in the snow which when melted will leave a huge mess in and around our properties.
Beginning on April 1, 2014 the Code Enforcement Department will begin its “Spring Clean-Up Inspections”. All properties throughout the Town of Dover will be inspected for exterior property maintenance violations. All properties found to have violations will be given a “Notice of Violation” or NOV to abate these violations. In most instances a 30 day NOV will be issued to abate the violation(s). However, some NOV’s will have as little as 15 days and a maximum of 90 days to complete depending on the nature of the violation(s). Please be advised that the Code Enforcement Inspector may grant minor extensions to abate these violations as long as the property owner has shown that he or she has made a good faith effort to complete the violation(s) by the original re-inspection deadline. It is the goal of the Code Enforcement Department to make sure that all properties are maintained in accordance with the Property Maintenance Code. However, for those individuals that don’t abate the violations, summonses may be issued to court. Failure to correct the stated violations may results in a summons being issued for each and every violation that hasn’t been abated. Please be advised that each summons has a maximum fine of $1,250.00 or a term of imprisonment not to exceed 90 days or 90 days of community service. I would ask that all property owners and tenants take some additional time to clean up their properties once the snow has melted and begin any repairs that may be needed. I would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation regarding this matter. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at any time.
