Route 46 Bridge Scheduled to Open Thursday January 20th
Release Date: January 19, 2011

The NJDOT has advised Dover Officials that they plan to open the Rt. 46 bridge to two way traffic (one lane in each direction) sometime on Thursday January 20th, weather permitting. The NJDOT is hoping the weather is warm enough for the painting trucks, which must lay down the required traffic striping to accomodate the traffic. If all goes well, the bridge will reopen and two way traffic will be maintained through the remaining stages of the project. Full project completion should be by the end of 2011.

Concurrent with the bridge opening on the 20th, the next stage of construction will begin which necessitates the closing of Pequannock Street to through traffic between Route 46 and Route 15 (Clinton Street). This is necessary in order to facilitate the construction of the required grade change at the Pequanock Street / Route 46 intersection. Westbound traffic on Route 46 will not be able to make a left turn onto Pequannock Street, nor will through traffic be permitted onto Pequannock Street northbound past the Route 15 / Pequannock St. intersection. The last opportunity for westbound traffic to turn left toward the downtown area will be at N. Sussex Street. Westbound left turns will continue at the Morris Street / Rt. 46 intersection.

In order to better accomodate the anticipated increase in traffic at the N. Sussex St. / Rt. 46 intersection, thru and left turn lanes will be striped and marked with pavement arrows and signage on both the north and southbound approaches to Rt. 46. Left turn lanes will be provided, with thru lanes on the right.
